Cap de Creus is the first maritime-terrestrial park in the country. In 1998 a law was passed to protect the Cap de Creus peninsula and its maritime environment. It is located in the easternmost part of the Iberian Peninsula and is of great biological, geological and scenic quality. There are steep cliffs, dark rocks furrowed by wind and salt, islands and islets, coves with crystalline waters and mountainous terrain with hills and valleys that offer spectacular views of the coast. Its geological constitution is unique in the world.
Mediterranean and continental elements coexist in this park, giving rise to strange species, some of which are endemic.
